Everyone is welcome to join us for our December 3rd, 2019 meeting again at Theodore’s in Canastota. Directions are found on the left and right of our main page.
This will be our annual Christmas Party with Elections for new officers. We are electing a new Board member and all four officers. So please come and join us and have a good time and some good food and put some names and voices with the faces.
All are welcome and all are welcome to bring a desert to pass for the meeting.
So, if you are interested in participating in some ARES practice and being a part of something else and have the time. Please, take the time to volunteer and listen and participate in on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 19:30 hrs (07:30 pm) on the following repeaters 146.880 (Rome RRC) and 147.240 (Kirkland).
It’s a great opportunity to learn some new Amateur radio skills and to listen in on what the process is and get familiar with ARES as a group. All are welcome and the group in the area is very forgiving and easy to work and learn with. It’s a great chance to get to know the process and those who are doing ARES and to be a part of this helpful service.
It’s that time of the year again. Officers are due up for election, all officers are needing to be elected and also a new board member. Keep these ideas in mind for our next upcoming meeting, November 5th, 2019. We will be discussing the election of officers for our December meeting and looking into changes coming up next year.
Please don’t forget to vote in your county, state and national elections on November 5th, 2019 before you come to the meeting otherwise you might miss your opportunity that evening.

Winter SKYWARN Spotter Training Classes are coming!
Most upstate NY counties are conducting Winter SkyWarn Training in October and November.
The training will be held at various area locations and on-line. This class is for beginners or anybody that has a general interest in weather. These classes train volunteers how to accurately measure and report snowfall totals to the National Weather Service. The class is free and open to everyone; no age requirements, previous training, or equipment is required.
The SKYWARN program is a nationwide program that provides real-time severe weather reports to the National Weather Service. “Trained weather spotters provide valuable lifesaving information to the National Weather Service and we encourage those who have an interest in weather to participate in this critical program,” said David Nicosia, Warning Coordination Meteorologist in Binghamton NY. “Despite all the technological advances, SKYWARN Spotter reports are still crucial to the National Weather Service in providing more accurate severe weather warnings,” Nicosia continues.
Want another and maybe the last Hamfest of the year. It’s getting colder and the Hamfests are getting slimmer to find, but there’s one more at least. Take an opportunity to check this one out if you can.
For the last few weeks we have had our repeater up and running in a new location. We are holding our morning and evening nets back on the 145.210. It has some coverage and is working well so far. We are looking to make some changes in the coming weeks to increase out coverage. If you can reach the 145.210 repeater, please check-in on a net sometime and let us know who you are and where you are coming from so we can see out coverage better.

I’m looking for a few good hams!
This is our 8th year supporting the Sitrin Stars & Stripes Run/Walk at SUNY Poly in Marcy, NY. The event this year is taking place on Saturday, October 5 this year and I’m hoping for operators to check-in at Net Control behind Donovan Hall (same place as recent years) around 8 am to get their t-shirts and printed maps/assignment sheets. Everyone should be on post by 8:45 and we will be all wrapped up before lunch. We’ll be using simplex again this year as that has worked well the past couple of years.
Please let me know if you’ll be available to assist and what your shirt size is so I can pull them when I’m helping setup the event Friday night.

If you might be looking for an event to help out in and assist with using your Amateur radio skills, here is an opportunity for you. The Honor America Day Parade is being held on the last Saturday in July. July 27th, 2019 and it includes a 5k/Walk/Run a parade at 10 am (participation included) and concludes with the opportunity to witness the Concert and Fireworks that evening.
Hope you can help out and if not pass on the information to someone who might want to or be able to assist and have some fun.

The time has come the Walrus said, to talk of a parade!
It is July and once again we are gearing up for the annual Honor America Days Parade. First of all I would like to thank all of you for helping out over the last several years and I would like to ask if you would be willing to join again this year. I am trying to staff 14 divisions and the reviewing stand as usual. We are critical to the success and safety of this event. We close the roads, we are part of the parade, we are part of the team!
The traditional thank you gift is available again this year, reserved seating tickets to the concert and fireworks on the lawn of Ft. Stanwix at 8PM that evening.
For those of you with kids or grandkids that would like to accompany you in the parade feel free, this is a family friendly event and there is tons of candy thrown along the route. If you have kids with you, I will generally place you towards the end so the kids get to see most of the parade. Please let me know. Also if you have any special request to have a particular group in your division, let me know. I do my best to accommodate it.
