Pumpkin Patrol: October 30-31 Bridges of the New York State Thruway

This event contributes to the safety of travelers on the New York State Thruway. It is a statewide event and is held in cooperation with the New York State Troopers.

****We need a few more volunteers!**** We will be covering 4 bridges which cross over the NYS Thruway, on two nights, Oct. 30 & 31 from 7 to 9 pm.

We observe and report any unusual activity on these bridges to a net control. A mobile 2 meter radio is recommended however handhelds with a vehicle roof top antenna may work okay.

The net information will be forth coming as we finalize plans.

You will be given full instructions and identification credentials.

NWS SKYWARN Storm Spotter Class – Saturday October 28th, 2017

Location: Leonardsville Fire Departmant Fire Hall on Mill Street

Time: 1830-2030 (6:30 pm – 8:30 pm)

SKYWARN is a National Weather service (NWS) program developed in the 1960s that consists of trained weather spotters who provide reports of severe and hazardous weather to help meterologists make livesaving warning decisions. Spotters are concerned citizens, amateur radio operators, truck drivers, mariners, airplane pilots, emergency management personnel, and public safety officials who volunteer their time and energy to report on hazardous weather impacting their community.
